Gold Voyage, "Goldie", is a 1987 JC registered Thoroughbred mare. She is by the legendary hunter sire Gold Apollo who is from the Milkie line of palomino TBs and out of a beautiful liver chestnut racebred TB mare. In the middle 1980's when I was choosing a stallion for Goldie's dam, I kept coming across Gold Apollo but rejected him initially because of his color. However, I just could not forget his look and conformation and eventually decided to use him despite the prejudice against color at the time in the hunter ring. I hoped for a chestnut foal, but obviously did get a beautiful palomino filly. Goldie not only inherited Gold Apollo's beautiful color, but his classic conformation, movement, and jumping ability. She was a bold jumper and has a fantastic temperament. I have gotten many comments from a variety of knowledgeable horse people about her beauty and temperament. Goldie was shown very lightly due to the financial and time constraints of my lengthy college career. After retiring from riding, she has given us several foals from a variety of stallions. They have all been very different types, but all have inherited her temperament and movement. She slipped her foal for 2008, but we may attempt to rebreed her one more time in the spring to Otteridge Foxtrot for a very fancy hunter pony for 2009. |
